In one paragraph

Quartz is highly resistant to staining. Because it is non-porous, spills from wine, coffee, oil, citrus and most everyday substances sit on the surface rather than soaking in, so they wipe away cleanly. It is sensible to wipe spills reasonably promptly, and to be a little more careful with strongly pigmented substances, but in normal use quartz resists staining far better than porous natural stone. Does quartz stain? An honest answer

Why quartz resists staining

Quartz is non-porous, which is the key to its stain resistance. Liquids cannot penetrate the surface, so substances that would soak into and mark a porous stone simply sit on top of quartz and wipe away. Our FAQ on whether quartz is porous explains this.

Everyday spills

Common kitchen spills, including wine, coffee, tea, oil and citrus juice, are well within what quartz handles comfortably. Wiped up in the normal course of cooking and cleaning, they leave no mark. Our FAQ on how to clean quartz countertops covers the routine.

Being sensible with strong pigments

It is still good practice to wipe spills reasonably promptly, and to take a little extra care with very strongly pigmented substances. This is sensible habit rather than a weakness of the material. The surface remains far more forgiving than porous stone.

If a mark does appear

In the rare case a mark does appear, it can usually be lifted with a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth. Our FAQ on how to remove stains from quartz worktops walks through the steps.

The bottom line

In normal kitchen use, quartz is highly stain resistant and keeps its appearance with very little effort. It is one of the reasons quartz suits busy kitchens so well. Precious Marble supplies and fits quartz from its Bedford base. See the Quartz Worktops Bedford page to start.
